The Glendale location is now closed. We are now officially a not-for-profit educational foundation with the mission of inspiring creativity. Upcoming projects include raising money for a “M8kemobile” to bring creativity to areas that need it most. We will be hosting events at various locations in the Metropolitan area while developing projects at our Forest Hills and South Ozone Park studios.

3D Printer is Online!

We have completed the construction of our Makerbot Thing-o-Matic 3D Printer!

(We don’t know of any others here in Queens, but there might be a couple hidden in the recesses of Brooklyn somewhere where you have to t8ke the subway because you can’t park.)

This is a truly 21st Century technology which will in every home by the end of this decade.

Uses include printing jewelry, housewares, tools and medical supplies on demand.

Come watch it print digital 3D creations and learn how it works!

In our 3D printing workshop you can create a basic 3D design, print it and take it home.

We sell personalized and non-personalized 3D items.

For the large bead, the LED is inside the polymer clay and survives being baked in the oven for a few minutes. The current runs through the wires to a battery pack at the clasp. We love the subtle glow. We don’t want to m8ke light up jewelry that looks like the stuff they sell at Disneyworld when it gets dark. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, we’re just going for a more refined sort of thing.

The eye highlight in the painting is a tiny white LED and the ring has 2 lavender LED’s and is constructed of polymer clay on canvas with acrylic paint. Conductive paint and conductive tape are underneath the paint and extend to the hardware on the back of the canvas. Our next few paintings will be landscapes.

We’ve been hearing you tell us that you’d like some classes for children on the weekend and we’re giving you what you want. Drawing for Kids is now being offered at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Painting for Kids is now being offered at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. This is of course in addition to our many adult and teen classes! See our new schedule of classes!

Glowing Fashion

Last weekend we were successful in creating prototypes for glowing pendants. Moving beyond m8king things with lights that can be seen, we are embedding LED’s in translucent materials to create subtle works of art. We are also close to completion of our latest collaborative e-painting, working with light and shadow effects both with paint and with actual lights. Photos coming soon!
